OP Art

The term Op Art refers to Optical Art. Op Art originated in the 1960’s. It was first called “kinetic art” (art which moves) because some of the art actually moved or appeared to move because of the way the designs play tricks on the viewer’s vision. The visual effects use color and patterns that disturb the eye and cause it to see images or movement on a flat surface

You will be introduced to the art movement of Op Art through a powerpoint presentation (Op Art Ppt & OP Art Activity Map ). You be taking notes while viewing the powerpoint and listening to the lecture. You will be creating your own Op Art Design. The Process:

Step 4 – Execute Your Design in Sharpie
Step 5 – Color Pencil Value Worksheet Shading Worksheet-Color Pencil
Step 6 – Add Color to Your Design

The Requirements for the Art Project – “Op Art”:
-Must be an original design
-Drawing must be an optical illusion
-You must have 3 shapes in your design
-You must use a planned color scheme (ex.- cool, warm, primary, secondary, complimentary color, etc.)
-Color pencil value to create the illusion (at least 3 values – dark, medium, and light
-Color pencil technique (layering, blending and shading is smooth and consistent)
-Craftsmanship – surface is pristine, inked lines are neat
-Completeness – illusion must fill the page, traced in black sharpie, and have colored pencil value throughout
